Reading Groups for Kids

Research studies have repeatedly shown that reading instruction in many traditional classrooms is not designed to provide students with sufficient engaged reading opportunities to promote reading growth (Gelzheiser & Meyers, 1991)

What are the benefits of reading groups for kids?
  • Motivates an increased frequency of reading
  • Small group round robin reading
  • Choral reading (students read aloud in unison)
  • Paired reading (students read to each other)
  • Echo reading (student copies teachers reading using similar tone and voice inflection)
